Dr. Giles earned his doctorate degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1982 after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine at Orono in zoological and biological studies.
He practiced in a large, multi-specialty clinic at the Charleston Naval Hospital in Massachusetts. Upon his return to Maine, he joined a small mid-coast group practice. Later, he was invited to practice at Eye Care and Surgery Center of Maine. He then opened his private practice and has been serving his patients eye care needs for over 25 years.

James served as an apprentice in a three-year optician program after graduation from the Opticianry Program at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston. He received his associate degree from Middlesex Community College in Bedford, MA.
James interests include woodworking, hiking, kayaking and skiing.
